  1. fallacy

A delusion is a mistaken conviction, an illusion a mistaken perception or inference. An illusion may be wholly of the senses; a delusion always involves some mental error. In an optical illusion the observer sees either what does not exist, or what exists otherwise than as he sees it, as when in a mirage distant springs and trees appear close at hand. We speak of the illusions of fancy or of hope, but of the delusions of the insane. A hallucination is a false image or belief which has nothing, outside of the disordered mind, to suggest it; as, the hallucinations of delirium tremens. Compare DECEPTION; INSANITY.

How to use fallacy in a sentence?

  1. Ramana Pemmaraju:

One must judiciously retrospect not just his actions but also reactions of the other in order to arrive at a sensible conclusion. The primary fallacy is that you're assuming that the other is functioning out of awareness - which is falsity and this further aggrevates the mental agony, driving you farther from reality. Watch on!

  2. Amy Peikoff:

Individuals should not be outsourcing their critical thinking toanyone — whether another individual, a company … or a government official, how has the West come to distrust the individual in such a fundamental way ? An appeal to authority is, as basic logic tells us, a fallacy. It is not the road to salvation, no matter how well intentioned.

  3. Joe Kent:

Jake Sullivan, Antony Blinken, John Kerry … Jake Sullivan brought in all these guys who really staked their careers on the Iran deal, the JCPOA, in general, I think we continue to do the wrong things because people do n’t want to admit they’re wrong … the gambler’s fallacy.

  4. Benjamin Stolberg:

An expert is a person who avoids small error as he sweeps on to the grand fallacy.

  5. Pat Patten:

It’s a fallacy to think, unless they’re some kind of really exceptional person, that they could flee into the woods with nothing and make it.
