  1. entertainment

Entertainment and recreation imply thought and mental occupation, tho in an agreeable, refreshing way; they are therefore words of a high order. Entertainment, apart from its special senses of a public performance or a social party, and predominantly even there, is used of somewhat mirthful mental delight; recreation may, and usually does, combine the mental with the physical. Amusement and pastime are nearly equivalent, the latter probably the lighter word; many slight things may be pastimes which we should hardly dignify by the name of amusements. Sports are almost wholly on the physical plane, tho involving a certain grade of mental action; fox-hunting, horse-racing, and baseball are sports. Certain sports may afford entertainment or recreation to certain persons, according to their individual tastes; but entertainment and recreation are capable of a meaning so high as never to be approached by any meaning of sport. Cheer may be very quiet, as the cheer of a bright fire to an aged traveler; merriment is with liveliness and laughter; fun and frolic are apt to be boisterous. Amusement is a form of enjoyment, but enjoyment may be too keen to be called amusement. Compare synonyms for ENTERTAIN.

I have this whole theory about Las Vegas that everything has to have an entertainment component to it. You’re vying for locals, you’re vying for tourist dollars, and I think this is a great story for you to go home with. You can tell your friends, ‘we were at this crazy restaurant where we picked up all these dishes off a conveyor belt and it was so much fun,’.

  4. Orrin Konheim:

DuVernay, who is African-American, told Entertainment Weekly. I was interested in … a heroine that looked like the girls I grew up with. DuVernay said she identified with some progressive ideas she found in L'Engle's novel. She's a very radical thinker and she embedded her sense of what society should and could be in this piece, and a lot of it I agree with. But does that mean her adaptation will adopt a political tone ? Experts say we shouldn't jump to any conclusions about whatDuVernay’s final film will look like. Freelance journalist Orrin Konheim, who has written for The American Conservative, noted that many films, including The Manchurian Candidate, have been remade with African-American stars. Ava DuVernay’s casting choice seems like a non-issue.

  5. Dan Gainor:

Late-night TV has gone the way of the rest of television – left, close to 30 different TV shows attacked Trump leading up to the election. Now that Trump won, Hollywood wants all of them to abuse him. Conservatives know what these shows have become and would be wise to find better entertainment options.
