English Synonyms and Antonyms
topic
A topic (Greek topos, place) is a head of discourse. Since a topic for discussion is often stated in the form of a question, question has come to be extensively used to denote a debatable topic, especially of a practical nature — an issue; as, the labor question; the temperance question. In deliberative assemblies a proposition presented or moved for acceptance is called a motion, and such a motion or other matter for consideration is known as the question, since it is or may be stated in interrogative form to be answered by each member with a vote of "aye" or "no;" a member is required to speak to the question; the chairman puts the question. In speaking or writing the general subject or theme may be termed the topic, tho it is more usual to apply the latter term to the subordinate divisions, points, or heads of discourse; as, to enlarge on this topic would carry me too far from my subject; a pleasant drive will suggest many topics for conversation.

How to use topic in a sentence?
I think people aren't as educated on the topic as they should be. They need to understand exactly what it is, it's not an option, it's actually just who the person is, it's who they are inside, so why would you prevent someone from being who they are?
Iran is very firm on the U.N. sanctions. All the sanctions, economic, proliferation-related ones and others should be lifted at once, this is a very difficult topic.
The issue of fake news on Facebook has been a hot topic for months, particularly during the recent U.S. presidential election. In one hoax article, for example, Pope Francis was falsely reported to have endorsed Donald Trump. FACEBOOK's' FAKE NEWS' HIGHLIGHTS NEED FOR SOCIAL MEDIA REVAMP, EXPERTS SAY Facebook’s Trending Topics section also fell prey to some high-profile fake stories after the social network implemented an algorithmic feed this summer. These included a false article that Fox News had fired anchor Megyn Kelly and a hoax article about the Sept. 11 attacks. On another occasion a seemingly innocent hashtag that appeared in Trending Topics linked to an inappropriate video. The social network announced Thursday that it will make it easier for users to report fake news when they see it, which they can do by clicking the upper right hand corner of a post. If enough people report a story as fake, Facebook will pass it to third-party fact-checking organizations that are part of the nonprofit Poynter Institute's International Fact-Checking Network. Five fact-checking and news organizations are working with the company on this : The Associated Press, The Associated Press, FactCheck.org, Politifact and Snopes. Facebook says this group is likely to expand. FACEBOOK BLOCKS CAR INSURER FROM PROFILING USERS In his blog post, Adam Mosseri explained that if the fact-checking organizations identify a story as a fake, it will get flagged as disputed and there will be a link to a corresponding article explaining why. Stories that have been disputed may also appear lower in News Feed, he added. While users will still be able to share these stories, they will receive a warning that the story has been disputed. Additionally, once a story is flagged, it can not be made into an ad and promoted, according to Facebook. The Menlo Park, California-based firm will also be looking for signs that a story has misled people in some way, such as instances where people are significantly less likely to share a story after reading it. The big question, and a topic of active scientific debate, is whether the purple bacteria living on the ancient Earth had the ability to protect themselves from UV radiation well enough to inhabit vast expanses of the land surface, like plants do on the modern Earth, the spectral signature of the pigment would be much stronger if the pigmented bacteria covered the land surface.
