Rafsanjani is above all a pragmatist, a problem solver. He looks for ways to get things done.
It's quite possible that Trump's advisor is a pragmatist and a realist, this is probably not an ordinary visit. He has probably received some instructions from the President-elect. I don't think that meetings at the highest level will take place, but (the possibility) cannot be excluded.
If one is a journalist, it's all about the messaging. If one is a pragmatist, it's all about the marketing. If one is a voter, it's all about the results!
I think they worry that the new administration could be tougher and/or less predictable than its predecessor. At the same time, they do continue to talk about Trump as a deal maker, Trump as a pragmatist, they see him as more potentially more flexible, less ideological and therefore someone with whom they can make a deal.
