Kakinada is a city and a municipal corporation in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is located 465 kilometres east of the state capital, Hyderabad. It is also the headquarters of East Godavari district. It is nicknamed "Fertilizer City", "Pensioner's Paradise" and "Second Madras". The city had an urban population of 312,936 in 2011, making it the sixth largest city by area and the ninth largest city by population in Andhra Pradesh. Its population consists of 157,573 males and 155,363 females. The sex ratio of Kakinada city is 1046 per 1000 females. It is spread over an area of 190 km². Kakinada is part of a Special Economic Zone and a proposed "Petroleum, Chemical and Petrochemical Investment Region". East Godavari district is a district in Coastal Andhra region of Andhra Pradesh, India. Its district headquarters is at Kakinada. As of Census 2011, it is the most populous district of the state with a population of 5,151,549. Rajahmundry and Kakinada are the two largest cities in the Godavari districts in terms of population. The district of Rajahmundry was reorganized in 1859 into two districts of Godavari and Krishna. Godavari district was further bifurcated into East and West Godavari districts in 1925. After Nov, 1956's Andhra Pradesh was formed by combining parts of Naizam, Ceded and Circars, in 1959, the Bhadrachalam revenue division, consisting of Bhadrachalam and Naguru Taluks of East Godavari district were merged into the Khammam district. After June, 2014's reorganization and division of Andhra Pradesh, the mandals of Bhadrachalam, Nellipaka, Chinturu, Kunavaram and Vararamchandrapuram were re-added back to East Godavari District.

Sukumar Bandreddi (born 11 January 1970), known mononymously as Sukumar, is an Indian film director, producer, and screenwriter who predominantly works in Telugu cinema. Born in Mattaparru near Razole in the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, Sukumar worked as a mathematics and physics lecturer at the Aditya Junior college, Kakinada for nearly six years before pursuing a career in films. He began working as a writer and assisted Mohan and V. V. Vinayak. Sukumar made his directorial debut with Arya in 2004, whose success catapulted him to stardom. Sukumar won the Filmfare Award for Best Director – Telugu and Nandi Award for Best Screenplay Writer for his work in Arya. His other notable films include Jagadam (2007), Arya 2 (2009), 100% Love (2011), 1: Nenokkadine (2014), Nannaku Prematho (2016), Rangasthalam (2018). Sukumar is known for his complex, multi-layered screenplays which earned him the reputation of being an intelligent screenwriter. He is also known for infusing grey shades in the character sketches of the protagonists in his films. Under the banner Sukumar Writings, he made his debut as a film producer with Kumari 21F (2015), whose story and screenplay were penned by him. He received the K. V. Reddy Memorial award for his contributions to Telugu cinema in the year 2014.
