English Synonyms and Antonyms
fearful
Awful should not be used of things which are merely disagreeable or annoying, nor of all that are alarming and terrible, but only of such as bring a solemn awe upon the soul, as in the presence of a superior power; as, the awful hush before the battle. That which is awful arouses an oppressive, that which is august an admiring reverence; we speak of the august presence of a mighty monarch, the awful presence of death. We speak of an exalted station, a grand mountain, an imposing presence, a majestic cathedral, a noble mien, a solemn litany, a stately march, an august assembly, the awful scene of the Judgment Day.

How to use fearful in a sentence?
What I find very important to stress here is that behind that there's a population of pretty good-hearted people who I just think are confused and fearful about what's going on, and I'm hopeful -- I don't think that this film will change anything -- but hopefully the values of generosity and sharing can re-awaken at some point.
We are our children's role models, so we should be leading by example at all times and when we're sad, we talk about our sadness so we can talk about us being fearful and sad that this happened, but then, I always try and end on the positive to help them cope or deal with it, that we are a family and that we support each other as a family.
The first day we went in the boat they were still fearful and screaming, desperate to be fed. I was brought to tears.
When a child is anxious or fearful, the parts of their brains responsible for attention, thinking, and learning just aren't able to function as well, teachers might find that some kids are more distractible, seemingly disengaged, not understanding the material as easily, or even easily annoyed or more emotionally reactive.
Detroit Police Chief James Craig:
You will allow this to continue if you do nothing, we can't do it alone. This is not the time to be fearful. These are urban terrorists who do nothing positive for our neighborhoods.
