English Synonyms and Antonyms
A man is successful in any case if he achieves or gains what he seeks; he is known as a successful man if he has achieved or gained worthy objects of endeavor; he is fortunate or lucky if advantages have come to him without or beyond his direct planning or achieving. Lucky is the more common and colloquial, fortunate the more elegant word; fortunate is more naturally applied to the graver matters, as we speak of the fortunate, rather than the lucky, issue of a great battle; lucky more strongly emphasizes the element of chance, as when we speak of a lucky hit, a lucky guess, or of one as "born under a lucky star." Favored is used in a religious sense, implying that one is the object of divine favor. Happy, in this connection, signifies possessed of the means of happiness. One is said to be happy or prosperous whether his prosperity be the result of fortune or of achievement; prospered rather denotes the action of a superintending Providence.

How to use lucky in a sentence?
Looking at the waves, cresting then hitting the shore, only to retreat ignominiously back to sea, it reminded me that people are like waves. Their moods shift and turn, then crest before hitting the shore, and only some of the lucky few can ride that wave standing up, smoothly carving an intricate pattern as he or she rides towards a sun blanched shore. At times like this, I always like to quote from Macbeth’s soliloquy in act 5, scene 5 of William Shakespeare's Macbeth, when Macbeth heard of his wife’s death.
Just lucky I guess, that was title of my book. It was based on an old joke. Here it is: Cop to hooker, ‘What’s a nice girl like you doing in a place like this?’ She answers, ‘Just lucky I guess.’ That has been my life.
The 'challenge' for a pregnant woman is to stay healthy all the way to term (i.e. 37 weeks), without running into any complications, my guess is that at least 50 percent will be that lucky.
I got lucky, but I would have liked to have been more prepared, I think, but, were thankful, and were definitely humbled to be here right now.
Regardless of what kind day I was having, I was always lucky because there was always a film to make ... Dog died - go make a movie. Failed some exams - go make a movie. Had your first kiss - go celebrate by making a goddamn movie, if you get to work in this job, you are by sheer virtue of statistics one of the luckiest people on earth so none of us who are lucky enough to do this should ever forget that and I promise you that I won't. I'll never stop feeling lucky to be here and be a part of this.
