English Synonyms and Antonyms

  1. teach

To teach is simply to communicate knowledge; to instruct (originally, to build in or into, put in order) is to impart knowledge with special method and completeness; instruct has also an authoritative sense nearly equivalent to command. To educate is to draw out or develop harmoniously the mental powers, and, in the fullest sense, the moral powers as well. To train is to direct to a certain result powers already existing. Train is used in preference to educate when the reference is to the inferior animals or to the physical powers of man; as, to train a horse; to train the hand or eye. To discipline is to bring into habitual and complete subjection to authority; discipline is a severe word, and is often used as a euphemism for punish; to be thoroughly effective in war, soldiers must be disciplined as well as trained. To nurture is to furnish the care and sustenance necessary for physical, mental, and moral growth; nurture is a more tender and homelike word than educate. Compare EDUCATION.

How to use teach in a sentence?

  1. Danielle Atkinson:

If we teach a generation of young people that, after the Civil War, the Emancipation Proclamation and all of the events of the 1860s, attempts to integrate free people failed and there were repressive laws enacted that weren't repealed for almost a century, then we're going to have different conversations, we're going to have historical context for why the country is the way it is, instead of thinking that the fact that Black people are at the bottom of every metric is indicative of our deficit or our inferiority.

  2. Alexandre Dalloni:

Children are the future, the planet is also here for children to inherit, so it's those of a very young age which we can teach ... to tell them that everyone is responsible for preserving the planet for the future.

  3. R. J. Baughan:

We find greatest joy, not in getting, but in expressing what we are...Men do not really live for honors or for pay their gladness is not the taking and holding, but in doing, the striving, the building, the living. It is a higher joy to teach than to be taught. It is good to get justice, but better to do it fun to have things but more to make them. The happy man is he who lives the life of love, not for the honors it may bring, but for the life itself.

  4. Ryan Bomberger:

Something we like to say is we love every human being, not necessarily every human doing, there’s a way we can teach people to value others without having to agree with all of their behaviors and ideologies.

  5. Candidate McBath:

I feel like I can talk to him out here, and then I tell him a lot. I said,' I'm trying to do everything I was raising you to do. So I can't be a hypocrite. And I got to try to get it right because that's what I was trying to teach you to do.'.
